Northern York County is home to the Polar Bears in this suburban district. This large area of 92 square miles is bordered by both Cumberland County and Adams County and has a population around 22,000 people. The district has 4 elementary schools: Dillsburg, Northern, South Mountain, and the Wellsville campus for grades K-5. The district Middle School has under 800 students and a student teacher ratio of 14:1. The High School had the same ratio for 1073 students for the 2011-2012 school year. The high school offers students the opportunity to get a head start on college by participating in the Dual Enrollment program. This is a state program to earn college credits at a reduced rate while at the same time meeting graduation requirements.
